In September 2021, 59.1% of Berliners voted for the expropriation of large housing groups and for the socialization of these housing stocks. For the first time in forty years, a social movement in Germany achieved such a mobilization for public and democratic ownership. But the movement won even more than a successful referendum. “Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen and Co.” has once again put the ownership issue on the political agenda.
